Plastic free books
Kuopio City Library is currently experimenting with circulation of plastic-free books. Our aim is to see if library materials can remain in good condition throughout their life cycle without additional plastic coating. We also want to reduce the amount of plastic waste.
In case the plastic-free trial period shows that the books wear too much prematurely, we will revert to plastic coatings. We hope all our borrowers will keep on handling their loans with care to ensure minimal wear and tear. Everyone will benefit from plastic-free circulation – books cost less without coating, and borrowers get their copies faster since the wrapping phase is omitted.
